I’ve photographed weddings at Gorcott Hall, a Tudor country house at Mappleborough Green, just over the Warwickshire border and about ten minutes from Redditch. Timber beams, open fireplaces and centuries of history make it a wonderful place for honest, unposed wedding photos.
About Gorcott Hall
- History: a 16th-century, Grade II* listed Tudor house with 19th-century barns. The venue says Elizabeth I once visited.
- Exclusive use: only a small number of weddings and events are held each year.
- Capacity: up to 100 day guests and 140 in the evening, with indoor and outdoor ceremony options.
- On site: a bridal suite for morning preparations, boutique overnight rooms and an in-house chef.
- Setting: 15 acres of countryside, about five minutes from junction 3 of the M42.

Light and photo spots
Old houses can be dark inside, and that’s part of their charm. I’d rather use window light and firelight than flood a Tudor room with flash, so your indoor photos keep their warmth. Outside, the courtyard and archway are natural spots for family groups, and the gardens give us room for a relaxed couple portrait session away from the crowd.
How I’d approach the day
Exclusive use means the house is yours, so I can follow the day from the bridal suite in the morning to the barns at night without fuss. I’ll keep the group photos brisk and spend most of my time quietly catching real moments as they happen.
Practical tips
- Follow the venue’s directions for sat-navs. The postcode alone can put guests on the wrong side of the A435, so share their advice with your guests.
- Book the bridal suite for preparations to give your morning photos a beautiful historic setting.
